The economy of China has rapidly developed since the reform and opening up. By90s, architecture industry of China has gradually learnt from foreign architecture industry, and started to focus on architecture environment quality. With over20-years development, although green architecture has made great improvement in big cities, the promotion and construction in many small and medium-sized cities has been slow. In the face of large population base and gradually scarce resource, it is imperative that accelerate the development of green architecture in small and medium-size cities. It is hardly to see green architecture in many small and medium-size cities at present stage, and many places do not even know what green architecture is. It is mainly because that many places have the impression that cost of green architecture is high, which results in difficulties to promote green architecture. Is the fact true?Starts with the definition of green architecture in this paper, the characteristics of green architecture are introduced, and the differences between green architecture and general architecture are analyzed to build overall understanding of green architecture. Based on practical case of Kunming expo green ecological project, empirical analysis is carried out by comparing incremental cost with incremental benefit to demonstrate economic advantages of green architecture. This paper consists of six chapters. In the first three chapters, definition and characteristics of green architecture are introduced as well as development of green architecture at home and abroad, and differences between green architecture and general architecture are analyzed. Fourth and fifth chapter are the key content in this paper. The meaning and constitution of incremental cost and incremental benefit of green architecture are explained in fourth chapter, and based on detailed calculation and analysis of incremental cost and benefit of Kunming Expo green ecological architecture project in fifth chapter, it is showed that initial cost had increased about10%, but about50%cost has been saved for customers in the next50years operation in the whole life cycle of green architecture, moreover, significant benefit has been created for society and public environment. In each technical measure, incremental cost of energy-saving link is the highest, but it would bring highest benefit at later stage, followed by land-saving and material-saving link, although, incremental cost of water-saving link is less than the former three links, gained incremental benefit is higher than incremental cost. The sixth chapter is the conclusion. It is pointed that high cost at early stage of green architecture is worth the money to developer, investor and society, and green architecture is inevitable trend of architecture development.
