With the development of the research on the early modern architecture of China, we have been achieved certain research results and practical experience about conservation and utilization of early modern architecture. But most of the results is about early modern masonry, the research on the conservation and utilization of early modern wood architecture that is an part of early modern architecture is in the initial stage.As an important part of traditional buildings in Wanshougong historic conservation area of Nanchang, weatherboard buildings is a precious architectural heritage, which plays an irreplaceable role in the study of changes in society, cultural and the technology in the process of the architecture modernization in Nanchang. How to protect the weatherboard buildings properly and make the best of it to satisfy the need of modern life is a topic worth studying.Firstly, the author has made a preliminary research on the origin of weatherboard buildings and its transmission. Secondly, the author conducts an intensive investigation on weatherboard buildings in Nanchang, Lichuan, Ganzhou, Fuzhou, etc. Based on the fieldwork, the author summarizes the features of typical structure and appearance and makes a comparative analysis between Nanchang weatherboard building and somewhere else. And the conservation and utilization methods rationality and applicability were analyzed in the meantime. Finally, the author provides the detailed protection, corrective measures and reusing weatherboard buildings in Wanshougong historic conservation area of Nanchang.The research and composition of this paper provides initial method of conservation and utilization of weatherboard buildings in China, fills the blank of China’s weatherboard buildings research, provides the references of technologies of the conservation and utilization to related architecture.
