From the 1980s till now, the pattern of electric power distribution has been chan ging gradually from centralized power supplying with single supplier to a more open power supplying network.As DG(distributed generation) technology develops, the str uctures and operation modes of distribution networks change simultaneously. That req uires operation engineers more consideration on the complex power flow and short circuit current distribution during the fault.In this article a way of building an automation system(both hardware and softwar e)to manage the distribution net work in my hometown based on its own characteristic s was provided, which can help us to know the working statement of our distribution n etwork containing DGs very well. Based on the data provided by the automation syste m, a method of fault location is provided, in which algorithm of neural network is use d. By test the accuracy of the fault locating algorithm is well and acceptable.with the work mentioned above, the dispachers of DG can know what is happening as it happe ns which leads to improved stabiliy and safety of DG Further more the dispatcher bel ong to ISO can direct the recondition of DG with shortcut faults with more accuracy.
