In recent years, project management is becoming a very important subject, progress management, as an important part of it, directly determines the achievement of project objectives, among them, developing a scientific and reasonable schedule is the key to success of progress management. However, the method of traditional schedule management exposes more and more prmblems in the practical application due to their lack of theories, resulting in many projects still exist the phenomena of cost overruns, schedule extended and competition for the resources in the current. The critical chain, as a new method of schedule management, is considered to be a major breakthrough in the field of schedule management in recent years, and it has been widely accepted and recognized by the domestic and foreign researchers.This paper analyzes the problem of the traditional schedule management in engineering applications based on a systematic study of the basic theoretical knowledge of schedule management, at the same time, it analyzes how to apply the critical chain to the construction project schedule management after in-depth study of the develpoment, implicit assumptions, the basic theory and workflow of the method of critical chain scheduling management.Therefore, combing the characteristics of the construction projects this paper constructes a schedule and control model based on the critical chain which can be applied to the construction projects. In the building of the schedule model, in this paper, firstly, it proposes a new method to estimat the duration of the activity based on the fuzzy mathematics, to some extent, it reduces the subjectivity of estimation and increases the reliability of the duration; Secondly, it solves the problem of single resource constraints in the schedule plan; Thirdly, it regardes the critical chain which considered the limitations of both time and resource as the bottlenecks of project instead of the critical path. Finally, it optimizes the calculation method of buffer sizing by introducing the complexity of the task position and the risk adjustment factor, which makes the buffer sizing more reasonable. In the building of the progress control model, in this paper, it startes researching from the setting of the warning trigger points of buffer and the monitoring point of progress, in the meantime, it matches the organizational structure with the warning mechanism of buffer, eventually, it forms a formation of schedule management with the organization hierarchically controlling the critical chain.Finally, the thesis verifies the model of constructed by combining with engineering examples, and it contrastes the traditional scheduling and the critical chain scheduling by using the method of comparsion analysis, the result showes that the method of critical chain scheduling management can accurately identify the bottlenecks of project, and it increases the flexibility of the plan becasue of the setting of buffer, so that it greatly reduces the number of changes to the plan and gives effectively protection of the plan. As such, compared to the triditional scheduling methods, the scheduling model based on critical chain which this thesis builded has obvious advantages in practical applications.
