The progress of science and technology as well as the development of society has witnessed an increasingly expand of the construction market. This has led to the growth of project cycle. which causes more uncertainty in the process of construction. These factors will, directly or indirectly, affect the cost, quality and time schedule of the project. As a middle sized construction project, the teaching building of Yantai Urban and Rural Construction School is required to be finished with limited funds within limited time. Therefore, it is especially important to apply a scientific managing method. Since the time schedule of the project is closely related to the duration delay, quality grade and the fulfillment of investment objective, the application of progress management theory to the study can reduce risks of duration delay so as to prevent the cooperated-building parties from unnecessary loss.This paper focuses on the research on schedule management of construction project. It proves that by proper scheduling, the objective of total project progress will be better realized. Firstly, it introduces the application of WBS in the process decomposition of project. It explains the method of establishing a schedule plan, the process of schedule control, and the application of network plan technology in the process of schedule planning and schedule control. Afterward, it makes empirical analysis of the teaching building project of Yantai Urban and Rural Construction School, as an example, on the basis of the project management theory. It makes an exploratory attempt to apply 4 d-the BIM technology to the schedule planning and schedule control of this project. It also makes an innovative use of the advanced project managing software to assist project management. As a result, it not only visualizes the whole process of construction, but also improves the predictability of the construction process, thereby reduces the possible rework or slowdown, in which the project schedule management has played a supporting role. Meanwhile, regarding progress control as a main line, the paper innovatively applies network diagram with time scale (time scale network diagram) as a carrier of the net worth method to a Cost-Progress Deviation Analysis. It proves that loss caused by controlling cost and progress separately can be avoided by monitoring the project through four evaluation indexes. Furthermore, the project will be optimized through the method of combining the critical path. In this way, the smooth implementation of the project is guaranteed.This paper concentrates on schedule plan and schedule control in different phases of the construction progress. It also explores other effective methods in the schedule management, such as Duration estimation method, critical path method, etc. It draws a conclusion that the application of network plan for dynamic optimization and adjustment will make the adjustment of construction period more flexible. Moreover, the application of Deviation Analysis on the basis of net worth method makes rectification easier; therefore, it will meet the demands of construction period, quality, and resources. Certainly, the application of other methods along with the summary of the process also enhances the maneuverability of the study deployed in this paper. In the mean time, the paper takes on a guiding significance to the application of progress management of construction project in similar construction projects.
