With the rapid growth in the number of global population, the development of in dustry and the expansion in irrigation, urbanization and progress in national economy,global fresh water demand grow with time. The uneven global fresh water distribution has seriously restricted economic development in all regions, particularly in some wat er-scarce regions, human survival is even under threat. Under such context, constructio n of water transfer projects, which transfer water resource from water abundant areas t o arid or half-dry regions, are the kind of significant strategic engineering project that become the main access for human race to adjust fresh water distribution, relieve the contradictions in the use of water among water scarce region, and ensure a sustainabl e development of the society.One thing deserves notice is that in long distance water t ransfer project, the pipeline is usually very long, terrace is complicated, water column separation and water hammer cavity occurs, hence generating serious damage on wate r hammer. Therefore, how to properly prevent and protect the water hammer phenome non that occur in distant water transfer pipelines have become one of the very critical research projects in safety operation of water transfer projects.This article specially focus on the water transfer project in the Yinan Industrial p ark of Ca country, Xinjiang Province that is long in distance, with multistage pressure pump system, and carry out discussion on the design of water hammer protection. T he working condition of the system operation and the optimization in the choice of w ater hammer protection measure are critical to the safe running of water transfer syste m, to ensure it runs safely, and avoid water hammer cavity in distant water transfer,analysis and calculation on related technical questions are thus required, and find opti mized solution to this question. In the final stage, this article proposed the questions r equiring further discussions on the analysis of water hammer in present distant water t ransfer. The water supply project in Yinan industrial park of Ca Country in Xinjiang province plays a critical role in Xinjiang social and economical development, after theconstruction of this project, the water demand issues in production and daily life of t his region will be solved, this project also serves important reference and instructional for the upcoming similar projects.
