The torque converter is the main component of the wheel loader’s transmission system. Its own characteristics and matching with engine is the basis of loader’s power performance and fuel economy. To save energy and reduce consumption, the engine companies have provided the low rated speed product of 2000r/min. Designing a dual-turbine torque converter of large capacity to match the engine is very important. If the wheel loader adopts the new system with low speed engine and large capacity converter, it can save fuel.And it’s good to the protection of environment. This is the development direction of construction machinery.In this paper, calculating modeling of the dual-turbine torque converter was finished. accuracy of this modeling was proved by an example; A mathematical model of the vane cascade was established. You can optimize the converter through optimization the entry angle of the vane. Based on the common characteristics and matching between the engine and the converter, YJSW330 D dual-turbine torque converter was calculated and designed. The calculation was finished through the matlab program. And the diesel SC9D210.1G2 was the matching object. The converter was developed for the 5 ton wheel loader;the shape of the circle was designed; the shape and drawing of the vanes were designed; the design of the vane wheels was finished. After assembly,the torque converter was tested to get the basic performance; Finally the torque converter was installed in the LW500 K wheel loader to test the traction force and fuel consumption. The test results verify the accuracy of the design and calculation, and provide the basis for improvement.
