According to the field investigation of 30 flower borders in roadside green spaces of Shanghai, this thesis has analyzed basic information of flower borders in roadside green spaces like application types, application of plant and structure of community. The investigation result shows that in distribution, the number of flower borders in urban areas is larger than that in suburban areas; in subordinated types, the number of flower borders along the street is larger than that in street corners; in the application types, the number of mixed borders is much larger than that of flowering shrubs, ornamental grass, annual and biennial herbal flower borders and other types. In the species of plants, 218 kinds of common plants are found, involving 86 families and 188 categories. There are 85 species in application woody class(shrubs or sub-shrubs), involving 33 families and 69 categories; 133 species in herbs, among which, 79 species in perennial flowers, involving 30 families and 70 categories; 32 species in annual and biennial flowers, involving 17 families and 31 categories; 17 species in ornamental grasses, involving 3 families and 13 categories; 5 species in bulb flowers, involving 3 families and 5 categories. Investigation results and analysis toward plant community of flower borders in roadside green spaces indicate that there are about 41 species of indigenous plants applied in the investigated flower borders, accounting for 18.8% of total investigated plants. In recent years, new plants have been introduced to Shanghai, while the proportion of the selection of indigenous plants in plant materials of flower borders in roadside green spaces of this city is not high, and it is necessary to further develop and apply indigenous plants. At the same time, this thesis analyzes the application frequency of every plant kind and concludes top 30 kinds of plants with the highest application frequencies. Based on the data of key investigation locations of Shanghai roadside green spaces, this thesis analyzes the richness of the plant application of flower borders, and concludes that flower border of North Zhongshan Road and Jinshajiang Road > flower border of Jiefang Road Extending Section> flower border of Kaiqiao Road> flower border of Kongjiang Road and Huangxing road> flower border of Postal Design Institute; this thesis also analyzes the community composition of flower borders and scenery features of four seasons in the roadside green spaces. In the study of design pattern of flower borders in roadside green spaces in Shanghai, this thesis analyzes the current design situation of flower borders in Shanghai and commonly applied types, summarizes the selection principle of plants in the flower border, including principles of coordination, art aesthetics, regional culture, diversity, hierarchy, etc., and it further discusses five designing contents of flower borders in roadside green spaces, including designs of theme and style, plane, vertical gradation, seasonal aspect and color. On this basis, this thesis has made case analysis and objective evaluations of the four pilot flower borders that the author participated in the design and construction, including the flowering shrubs, ornamental grass, color system and rock borders pilots, and this thesis analyzes its design thought, thematic concept, plant collocation and other aspects. Finally, this thesis puts forward problems generated during the construction of flower borders in roadside green spaces of Shanghai, and on the basis of which, this thesis has recommended the configuration mode of the flower borders in roadside green spaces. This mode includes the form of configuration and selection of species, which provide strong theoretical and practical basis for actively promoting the construction and development of flower borders in roadside green spaces of Shanghai. To some extent, it satisfies the requirements and expectations of administrative departments and the public toward characteristic flower borders in greening, develops flower borders into scales, and achieves good social and ecological effects.
