The last ten years the world’s largest oil and gas exploration shows that the onshore oil and gas resources are increas ingly depleted, offshore oil production and reserves are more than onshore. With the growing global demand for crude oil, offshore oil development process has gradually accelerated. Steel jacket offshore oil platform is currently one of the most widely used platform. The traditional jacket platform installation method is lifting method and because of offshore platforms increasingly integrated, modular, and large weight and size, float over method which is more suitable for large-scale installation develops rapidly. Dynamic positioning floatover installation can get off the barge deck mooring arrangement of equipment and devices for positioning. Dynamic positioning capability of its own barge can use thrusters to maintain barge positioning accuracy and precision tracking control and afford resistance from more severe c limate conditions during offshore construction operations, which increases the climate window for construction operations and reduces the time and cost and improve operational efficiency. In this paper, research was conducted about hydrodynamic studies of dynamic positioning floatover installation. Based on Huizhou 25-8 DPP topside floatover installation, numerical s imulation, model test and field measurement were conducted to research on multiple bodies coupled dynamic response and motion characteristics between barge, topside and jacket during floatover installation. Frequency domain analysis and time domain analys is at different stages of mating was carried on to discover the rules of barge movement and interaction force at different stages.
