A Study On Regional Adaptability Of The Miao Traditional Dwellings In Southeast Guizhou

The southeast region of Guizhou province is an inhabited area of the Miao nationality. Villages of Miao are built down the hillside, by the water and surrounded by forests, which forms a human-nature harmonious landscape. Due to the rich forest resources in southeast Guizhou, wood has become their main building material, and "stilt style" wooden buildings can be seen everywhere. Pillar-supported house of the Miao in this region is derived from the stilt style architecture. Traditional dwellings of the Miao nationality in southeast Guizhou have a long history and rich cultural connotation, which endow it very high cultural research value and aesthetic value.The present paper chooses Fanpai village of Taijiang county, a typical Miao village in the southeast region of Guizhou, as case study. By analyzing the regional adaptability from two major aspects, the natural geographical environment and humane environment, the present paper aims to discover the relationship of the Miao traditional architecture with geographical environment and humane environment, and to find the Miao traditional local-style dwellings some protection and renovation measures of regional adaptability.The present paper consists of eight chapters:Chapter 1 mainly introduces the object, purpose, significance, methods and situation both at home and abroad of the study. This part builds a clear background for the following parts to ensure the study’s going well in the right direction.Chapter 2 makes a detailed introduction about geographical and humane environment of southeast Guizhou. This part gives the reasons why Fanpai village is chosen as the object of the study, so as to prepare for the analysis of the Miao traditional dwellings in the village.Chapter 3 analyzes the traditional architecture space of Fanpai village, then maps some selected typical dwellings.Chapter 4 analyzes the adaptive relationship of the traditional dwellings in Fanpai village with the natural geographical environment from several aspects, including climate, geographic features, water source and vegetation distribution.Chapter 5 analyzes the adaptive relationship between the traditional dwellings of Fanpai village and the local humane environment from several influential aspects, including regional economy, religious belief, habitude and surrounding culture.Chapter 6 analyzes the main problems existed at present to make preparation for solving the problems of development and renovation. Chapter 7 summarizes measures to protect and renovate the Miao traditional local-style dwellings of Fanpai village.The conclusion chapter makes a summary of the study.
