Study On Influencing Factors Of Sustainable Urban Renewal Of Megalopolis And Metropolis In China

Since the Reform and Opening up, the process of urbanization in China experienced a rapid growth, and this trend will remain stable in near future. Today, current megalopolis and metropolis in China are gathering more and more urban permanent residents, and there are also some cities gradually becoming metropolis. Besides the extension of city boundaries, these cities also need to improve population carrying capacity, expand infrastructure construction, improve urban environment, raise economy, and build a harmonious society. Thus, urban renewal plays an important role in megalopolis and metropolis in China. In developing countries and regions, sustainable urban renewal is not only a hot research area, but also an idea in urban renewal practice. How to learn from developing countries and regions, and combine the concept of sustainability in urban renewal in megalopolis and metropolis is of great significance on solving urban problems and promoting urban development in China.Firstly, this thesis proposes the theory of sustainable urban renewal at the basis of sustainability and urban renewal, and analysis urban renewal problems in China according to the overall development of cities in China and characteristics of megalopolis and metropolis; secondly, urban renewal practice in Britain and Hong Kong are set as examples to how is and how to achieve sustainable urban renewal; thirdly, based on the examples and the theory of sustainable urban renewal above, index system of objective of urban renewal in megalopolis and metropolis in China is established and each index is illustrated; fourthly, plenty of literature is analyzed by utilizing ground theory, and influencing factors of sustainable urban renewal is identified through literature review, then an Interpretive Structural Modeling(ISM) of is established to analyze the relationship among the influencing factors in terms of sustainable urban renewal in megalopolis and metropolis in China; finally, suggestions are put forward for megalopolis and metropolis in China to promote sustainable urban renewal.
