IDC is a centralized information and data management、storage and transmission place, where there are substantial communication equipment、data storage devices、computer servers operating in it. In recent years,with the rapid development of computer science and technology, the volume of IT equipment miniaturizes constantly which leads to the increase of the heat flow rate per unit area of IT equipment and increasingly stringent requirements of operating environment of IT equipment. As an auxiliary system to maintain the indoor environment in IDC, the annual consumption of electric energy of air conditioning system is quite gigantic which accounts for 40 percent of total energy consumption. Therefore, how to optimize design and save energy in air conditioning system of IDC is a problem which worths paying attention to*.Based on using IDC of an office building in Shenzhen as a typical example of IDC of public buildings in Southern China, the article mainly carried out three aspects of the research work.First of all, this paper surveyed each version of air conditioning system design specification in IDC and the parameters of typical IT equipment in the mainstream market in the recent years. Result shows that the ranges of temperature setting parameters of operating environment in the latest specification which called GB/T2887-2011 "General Specification of Computer Site" is from 15℃ to 30℃,while the temperature setting parameters of operating environment of the newest IT equipment is from 5℃ to 40℃,the latter is unfitted with the fronter by the upper limit value of temperature is 10℃ higher than the norm and the lower limit value of temperature is 10℃ lower.Secondly, surveying massive literature of domestic and foreign and collecting meteorological parameters of four typical cities in south China, this paper summarized effective energy saving technology of computer room air of IDC. Furthermore,according to the climate characteristics of South China, this paper put forward the view that the energy saving potential of using the outdoor cold source in Southern China in the winter and transition seasons is notable.Finally, based on the air conditioning system in the IDC for the research object, this paper analyzed the energy consumption of IDC,the temperature field distribution and flow field distribution of the indoor air and the thermal environment of outdoor unit by methods of field investigation, actual tests, energy consumption monitoring and CFD numerical simulation. Result shows that the energy consumption of air conditioning system is quite high.In addition to air conditioning equipment selection and improper selection of air conditioning equipment, the thermal environment of IDC is uneven, the delivery air short-circuits the return air, many local hot spots and holes which bring unorganized air exist in the IDC and the cooling environment of outdoor unit heat is poor. Based on analysis of aforementioned problems, this paper puts forward corresponding energy-saving programs and proposes adding the natural cooling source system to ameliorate the overwork of precision air conditioning.After the completion of all the energy saving projects, through practical tests, energy consumption monitoring and CFD simulation, this paper obtains the result that the temperature field distribution and flow field distribution of indoor air has been ameliorated, local hot spots has disappeared, air temperature of the environment of outdoor units has decreased more than 2.6℃, the natural cooling system achieves the energy saving of 2292.2 k Wh in January, 2015, by which the investment recovery period is about 4.3 years, verifying that the energy saving schemes and the natural cooling system is of good popularization value in South China in improving the thermal environment of indoor IDC and outdoor unit, which provides the basis for optimization design and energy saving modification for IDC in Southern China in the further.
