With the development of the economy, the demand of electric power prompts the size of power system bigger and bigger. Although the operation of the grid become reliable, the damage of black out is hard to estimate. In now days, the main method to solve the black out is black start. Conventional hydropower is limited by geographical distribution and the gas generator is not feasible to widely used in terms of cost. However with the development of wind power, considering it as the black start source is a challenging subject. This paper proposed a black start strategy with the wind farm which is composed by DFIG according to the database of a regional power grid. And the feasibility of the strategy is studied by simulation.First of all, the structure of a regional power grid is resolved, based on the experience of a black start strategy with Hydropower, a new black start path and start up strategy with wind turbine is proposed.Then, to achieve the start up of DFIG independently, a stand-alone strategy is proposed and the results of simulation verify its feasibility. After that, the first step of black start is carried out. Wind farm which is working on the stand-alone mode start up independently, and charge the black start path. The simulation results show that the problem of over-voltage won’t happen in the black start strategy proposed in this paper.At last, the small system’s voltage and freguency during starting station service power(such as picking up loads and cranking of large asynchronous motors in auxiliay power system)are studied. The start-up of large capacity asynchronous motor has a great impact on the small system frequency and voltage. Therefore, the load type, load capacity and the order of picking up load are considered in this research. The principle of load recovery is proposed which is based on the simulation results. What’s more, the simulation results show that the black start strategy with wind power is Feasible.
