With the rapid development of road construction in our country, abundant achiecements have been obtained in traffic engineering facilities. And as an important part of raffic engineering facilities, reasonable set of traffic signs can not only improve traffic congestion but reduce the accident rate. In terms of Guangdong province, although Guangdong province has strengths in construction of road infrastructure what makes road net clear, construction of traffic sign system, as road supporting facility, has been lagged behind. How to reasonally evaluate the existing traffic signs set has important significance.This paper runs from two aspects-city roads and highways to evaluate traffic signs. For city roads, in the first, by analyzing various influencing factors of sign’s efficiency, evaluation indexes are proposed. And those indexes include coincidence rate of standard, accuracyrate of internal information, noninterference rate of information, integrity rate and other relevant indexes. Then it uses Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP method) to evaluate the indexes. At last, evaluation system is builded and relevant standards are given. As for highways, this paperfirstly finds out the dangerous area by analyzing line index and accident rate and then analyzes the current situation of traffic signs and other traffic safety facilities. Next it needs to evaluate the damage condition and facility integrity. Finally optimum scheme is given through combining design theory of traffic safety home and abroad.In order to better combine evaluation with real situation, the paper takes some city roads in Guangzhou and Meihe highway as examples to analyze and evaluate and in the same time gives optimization schemes which achieve good results. On these grounds, it verifys the feasibility of results.
