As a static guidance system guide signs play an important oriented role in urban road traffic. By displaying oriented information, they serve the road users. Thus, it is the key of their oriented function and guidance service whether the proper information is displayed in guide signs. This dissertation makes researches on the intelligent design methods for guide signs according to their traffic service function, and develops an intelligent system to solve the display design problem for guide signs in urban road network.The main works in this dissertation are introduced as follows:1. To study the model of guide signs.Considering the data basement of the guide sign design, data models of the existing GIS-T platform are investigated, and a road network model for guide signs is established after discussing the elements in the sign design process. By analyzing the information displayed, a hierarchy model of guide signs is constructed.2. To study the design method of guide signs based on spatial reasoning.A design method based on spatial reasoning is proposed to satisfy the demand of road information to display in guide signs. (1) By analyzing the spatial relations of urban road network, the abuttal relation between road sections is discussed. (2) By analyzing the cognition process for sign information, the design method based on spatial reasoning is established. (3) The realization of that method is explained in detail.3. To study the design method of guide signs based on oriented places.A design method based on oriented places is proposed to solve the problem to display the information of these oriented places. (1) After describing and analyzing the oriented places, an integrated design technique is proposed. (2) Spatial clustering is used to realize the distributed clusters of oriented places. (3) By analyzing the layer character of urban road network and the incidence division of oriented places, the guidance distribution to reach these places can be gained by the hierarchy algorithm. (4) The display priority can be gotten by using AHP.4. To study the design method of guide signs based on road routing.Aiming at the impact that the guidance route of oriented places is restricted by traffic management, a design method based on road routing is proposed. (1) Factors of traffic flow organization and traffic management, in the design process of guide signs, are analyzed. (2) By discussing the road routing under the condition of traffic management, the ant colony algorithm is used to realize the guidance routing of important oriented places. (3) The revise method about guidance routing of general oriented places is discussed.5. To study the construction and realization of the intelligent design system of guide signs.By comparing the three intelligent methods mentioned above, an integrated displaying method is proposed. Then on the basis of the integrated method, the intelligent design system is constructed and the prototype system of it is realized. At last, the intelligent design process is illustrated by using an example.6. To study the simulation and evaluation of the guide sign system.After the analysis of the existing evaluation method and the system character, an evaluation system on guide signs in urban road traffic is proposed. The author proposed a MAS-based simulation system to evaluate a guide sign system, and used an example to illustrate the process of the simulation and evaluation.
