With the rapid economic development, renewable energy, such as solar energy, has aroused attention for its being clean, environmental-friendly and abundant. Despite the fact that photovoltaic(PV) cell is one of the most effective ways for solar energy utilization, the power of each unit is only generally around 175~250 Wp. Thus, PV cells being connected as PV array is an available way to acquire more power. Battery energy storage system is widely used between generation and user in the PV generation system, its capacity has been reached tens of megawatts. Battery are connected in serial and parallel in a large capacity of PV power generation system. However, its promotion is challenged for the poor charging efficiency and ineffective monitoring method of chain energy storage system. Therefore, the research on utilization and management of PV power generation system is significant, as well as an more efficient and rapid way for battery charging.First of all, the characteristics of PV array and battery array are studied, a battery array charging technology is presented. The array properties and charge transfer pulse charging technology are combined in the charging technology. The charge-stop control and array control are used in the method to effectively reduce the polarization during the charging process and increase the charging current, the speed of charging, and the output voltage and output power. Thus battery charging is realized with higher efficiency. Secondly, digital power monitoring method for battery monitoring is presented. The PIC microcontroller is applied to count the number of pulse and three groups of battery power are acquired by calculation. At the same time, the master-slave control method is proposed, a single chip microcomputer controlling the rest ones is adopted to complete the battery monitoring.Then, a prototype controller is built with PIC18F2550 in this paper. The master-slave control is realized with three PIC18F2550. At the same time, a battery monitoring system is built by adopting the software design of lower computer based on PIC18F4550 and the software design of upper computer based on Lab VIEW. Information on the battery voltage, PV voltage, the charging current and the battery power is collected, uploaded by the lower computer which adopts the PIC18F4550 as the core, and eventually displayed on the Lab VIEW.Finally, a battery charging experiment system is built. Battery array charging technology and battery monitoring method are used in the system. The comparison results of the test results and the theoretical waveform indicates that battery array charging technology could provide an effective charging way for the large capacity chain charging system.
