As the petroleum in short supply and serious environment pollution, people pay more and more attention to electric vehicle(short called EV in the following text) development. Test is one of the most important process in vehicle development. The vehicle mainly have three test methods: computer simulation test, real vehicle road test, chassis dynamometer test in room. But the computer simulation test must set too many uncertain factors, it will affect the test result. The road test and chassis test must have real prototype vehicle, it will cost more time and money, and it’s difficult to change the design of prototype after test. So, I researched the multi-energy powertrain test system(short called test bed in the following text), it’s based on engine test bed, can simulate the vehicle, and it gathers the advantages both of computer simulation test and real vehicle test. This paper is based on AVL engine test bed, and did some optimizations and reconstruct, construct a multi-energy powertrain test system suitable for powertrain test of tradition vehicles, hybrid vehicles, electric vehicles etc. This paper analyzed the objectives and importance of construction the test bed, based on the importance of new energy vehicle and electric vehicle development. Analysed EV key technologies and development process based on real EV development program, and described the test bed’s functions and characteristics. Designed the test system based on modularization design idea, include test equipments and test facilities. The test system is suitable for powertrain test of tradition vehicle, hybrid vehicle, electric vehicle. Researched the methods of powertrain simulate vehicle to test the performances of dynamic, economy, emission, etc. At last, did a fuel consumption test of a hybrid powertrain on this test bed, verified the vehicle simulation function of the test bed.The multi-energy powertrain test system has other advantages that vehicle tests don’t have. Compare to vehicle tests, it will not be influenced by environment. Another useful advantage is the test parts on the test bed will not be limited by the arrangement of the whole vehicle.
