Research On Historic District Renewal Of Ili

Issues concerning about inner cities have been coming out for years with the acceleration of urbanization. Accompanying with a high trend of the nationwide urban renewal, “placeless” has been a vital dilemma due to the ignorance of traditional culture. Ili is a minority nationality community with multi-culture. Based on the culture background and climatic identity, it possesses the unique settlement, regional characteristics as well as colorful pattern of folk customs. Under the circumstance of “The Belt and Road Initiatives” and “Western Development” strategies, it is urgent to solve the problems in the urban renewal process of Ili,such as preserving the urban landscape and regional characteristics of historic district. Importance of studying on the renewal of historic district in Ili has been widely attached in recent years.In this text, the research on the existing historic district renewal is initially released followed by the dilemma in these process. Then, by fully analyzing the traditional cultural identities of Ili and the status qua of traditional historic district in Yining, the capital city of Ili, this paper point out a series of renewal strategies for Ili historic districts, and a project of urban renewal for Ayidun historic district has also been released in order to testify the possibility and suitability of the strategies above. In the end, this paper raise prospect for the historic district renewal in Ili in the future. This text has three parts.The first one contains Chapter I and II, pointing out the problems in nowadays historic district renewal. Chapter I is an introduction to the background of this research, as well as the meaning and purpose, content and methodology, and ranges of the research. Chapter II is the basis research on the trend of historic district renewal in foreign countries and China, from theories and practices perspectives. The study on the existing renewal process aims at pointing out the advantages and shortcomings which could be adopted in the renewal of Ili historic districts.The second part is concentrating on analyzing the status qua. Chapter III pays attention to the regional culture of Ili and traditional districts of Yining. Specifically, the former one contains the analysis of regional natural conditions and regional culture; the later one researches the traditional districts from the perspective of urban history, space patterns, dwelling units as well as building aspect.The third part is for solving the problems, including Chapter IV and V. Chapter IV releases a series strategies of historic districts in Ili, from the perspective of overall landscape, regional architectures and administrative control. Chapter V is the case study of the renewal of Ayidun historic district in Yining, aiming at testifying and illustrating the renewal strategies above. It also develops from three aspects, namely continuing overall landscape, preserving and conserving regional architecture and drafting multidimensional control.In the end, Chapter VI sums up the conclusion and inadequacies of this research, prospecting a further development on this topic in the future.
