Pagoda is an important type of Chinese architecture that its development can represent the evolution of Chinese high building’s tectonic technique and art.The Chinese pagoda derives directly from Buddhism ancient India and central Asia. The oldest Chinese pagoda in the ancient text appears in East Han dynasty which kept the Hindu style. During the North and South dynasty, the imitation of Chinese tower was widely appears in the appearance of pagodas, and was well developed in Tang dynasty however was mature and stable in Song dynasty.The northern area of Guangdong province was always the vital passway towards Guangzhou. At the same time, the number of pagodas in Tang and Song dynasty is bigger than it in other regions of Guangdong province, which could be important to research the architectural history of Guangdong. This text will focus on the research about appearance, scale system and proportion of pagodas in northern area of Guangdong province.
