The Strategy Of Architectural Design Based On The Feature Of Sloping Terrain

The reason that I choose “The strategy of architectural design based on the feature of sloping terrain” as post-graduate thesis topic, is based on the reflection and thinking of the basement processing in the study of architecture design in recent years.There is “fast food” design pattern filled in the Chinese architecture design. The architects began design work with the CAD analyze topographic map after they get the mission statement. Someone never have the investigation and survey of the site even completed the construction plan. However, when confronted with some distinctive site just like sloping terrain, some architects in order to avoid trouble or limited in the single approach to handling the site, they choose to bulldozing process. This common phenomenon aggravated the deficiency of architecture regionalization though it is not the main reason of the stereotype of the modern architecture. The building has become to a boring living machine when the original terrain turn to a nondescript site.Start from reflection of these problem, or as a “Critical Regionalism”, I chose the direction of “The strategy of architectural design based on the feature of sloping terrain”. The abundance existence in our country,which about two-thirds of the land area that almost all the city have the sloping terrain, is the reason why I choose the sloping terrain for the point of penetration. And choose the strategy is to summarize some significance stuff for the architecture design.The thesis is divided into four sections, five chapters. The first part is an introduction which presents the content and significance of this paper. The second part includes the second and third chapters, is the basic research of the sloping terrain and sloping architecture. The second chapter described the complexity of sloping terrain and the impact on the architecture design. Acquaintance to the feature of sloping terrain is the basis of sloping terrain architecture design, and also is the basis of the thesis. The third chapter analyzed the characteristics of the sloping terrain architecture. It’s not only the form that sloping terrain architecture should exit, but also the design target. The third part is the fourth chapter, is the core part, and also explained the purpose of the paper. The forth chapter summed up some processing strategies of the sloping terrain architecture on the basis of abundant cases studies. The forth part—the fifth chapter, linking theory with practice, go back to the design strategy by analyzing my own practice case, to prove the feasibility of the design strategy summarized in the paper.This article is based on research method of "Induction- summary". Summarize the experience of predecessors by classification diagram, interpret and analyse the classic case, combined with the actual project case and my own thinking and experience, hoping to get some useful conclusions response to the sloping field construction. Although is a research, actually is standing on the shoulders of our predecessors, at the same time, it’s a sublimation process for myself. I hope this thesis has positive significance to the future design that can respect the site and create the unique urban memory, that is the purpose of why I wrote this paper.
