With the rapid development of national economy, the security and stable operation of the power system is increasingly becoming the control object of the network operation and maintenance department, and it also becomes a prerequisite of the power market. However, the network system has been the weak link in power grid construction for long time, and the power supply of 10 k V feeder which is related to the user of electricity closely has many problems, such as planning lag, complex wiring, old line, load imbalance and so on. The 10 k V high-voltage switchgear equipment accidents caused by overload seriously affects the normal operation of the power system, which is a big hidden risk.A close monitoring for the temperature of the 10 k V switchgear, which can effectively monitor the temperature rise caused by current carrying fault, is an essential method to ensure the reliable operation of power equipment, and it is of great significance for ensuring the normal operation of the substation equipment, so as to reduce maintenance frequency and enhance the operation reliability of the power devices and its automation. In fact, the rise of temperature of the 10 k V switchgear occurs mainly in the cable joint connection point or switch contact because of the poor construction quality or long-term bad contact. Therefore, making an effective monitoring for the cable joint connection point or switch action contact position in the switchgear is a reliable methold to prevent the temperature fault of the 10 k V switchgear and ensure the power system running in normal and stable operation.As for the 10 k V switchgear breaker contact in the substation, a online monitoring system based on passive wireless temperature sensor is presented in this paper, which can realize the real-time online monitoring for the temperature of high-voltage devices electrified. Firstly. After making a comparative study on the application of passive wireless sensor technology at home and abroad and combining with the engineering application demand of the 10 k V high-voltage switchgear in the power grid, this paper puts forward a novel passive wireless temperature monitoring method based on surface acoustic wave sensor technology. What’s more, the paper design the hardware and software scheme of intelligent monitoring system for switchgear wireless temperature measurement. Finally, some tests are made to show the installation process and application of monitoring system in operational substations. The passive wireless temperature monitoring system of 10 k V switchgear studied in this paper can effectively boost the automation of equipment inspection in power grid, which also strengthen the safety management of power equipment. It not only has a very good social benefit and economic benefit, but aslo has a wide application prospect in engineering by using the passive wireless temperature monitoring system of 10 k V switchgear.
