With the development of society, the competition between the auto companies becomes more and more strongly. However, if we want to stand out in the fierce competition, we need to improve product quality and reduce production costs. As we all know, the balance of the assembly line related to production efficiency directly, therefore to improve the balance of the assembly line and lower the production costs have become a shortcut to auto companies. Because the balance problem of the automobile assembly line is a large combinatorial optimization problem, and its multi-constrained, multi-objective and discrete features lead to the problem more difficult to solve. So far, there is no fixed solution for the balance problem of the automobile assembly line, although it has been studied for decades and achieved some results. Therefore, the auto companies pay more attention to the balance problem of the automobile assembly line.In this paper, we firstly introduce the research background and significance of the balance problem of the assembly line, summarize the research methods of the balance problem of the assembly line, and describe the application of the simulation technology on the balance problem of the assembly line briefly. Afterwards we introduce some related theory, discrete system simulation technology and some software which are often used in discrete system simulation technology of the assembly line. Then we research and analysis the three assembly lines and establish the linear programming model corresponding to them, the linear programming model verified by a production instance which is as following: Firstly, we obtain the work element schedule and plot the priority diagram of assembly line relationship; then the work element time and the assembly relationship between work elements are determined, and choose the appropriate mathematical model to program by using the Lingo software; finally, we obtain the most optimal solutions. In the end, the solve results of the three types of assembly line are verified by using the Witness software. The simulation results show that the optimization effect of the assembly line obviously, which can be used to the balance and optimization problem of the automobile assembly line.
