Historical block is the condensed essence of regional culture、urban history and folk customs. And it is shouldering the important responsibility that to inherit and develop the regional traditional spirit And because of the high speed of urban,We are facing many problems brought by reconstruction of old city. At home and abroad for a long time, the study of historical building and blocks often ignores the principles people-oriented. For designers, only on the basis of the actual needs of users, can they reduce the contradiction and conflict between the user and the environment after the design being put into use. The protection and development historical block not only should inherit the traditional culture essence, show the historical style, meet the demand of modern commercial economy, but also must meet the demand of people’s activities, achieve the desire of recreational feeling.Kuan Alley and Zhai Alley as one of the few historical sites in Cheng Du, is the crystallization of the history of old Cheng Du, is the memory of people’s live there, is the carrier of old cultural inheritance.Therefore, the study of Kuan Alley and Zhai Alley environmental cognition is very important.This article attempts to take people’s cognitive environment as a starting point, make a deep analysis and research of psychological characteristics of human, behaviors and its relationship with the neighborhood environment. First by analysis the background and significance of the research of Kuan Alley and Zhai Alley, to determine the observation method. And the study visual psychology, behavior environmental psychology, cognitive psychology and other related theory. Then use observation method, questionnaire method and cognitive map to find out the environment cognition. Several conclusions can be established as follows:(1)The characteristics of the activities in Kuan Alley and Zhai Alley:The rule composition of the people in the block:people in the block can be divided into 4 groups: the elderly, adults, young people and children, and the adult is the largest group of all; The types of the activities in Kuan Alley and Zhai Alley are varies, such as spectator activity, recreational activities, social gatherings, artistic activities, exercises;The activities are different in different season and time.(2)People have a good impression of Kuan Alley and Zhai Alley, giving a highevaluation. The environment can be easily perceived. Cultural image is the most attractive part; Architecture is the most easy one to be perceived.(3)Kuan Alley and Zhai Alley have some characteristics:It respect the history, save the truth of history and it does not destroy the value of the historic blocks. Kuan Alley and Zhai Alley show the history and culture connotation of the block by several ways, such as architecture, show window, exhibition of cultural relics.
