Our cities are more and more congestion due to the number of vehicles in constant increase, an increasing number of people choose automatic transmission, because it is brief and convenient. With the developing of shift control strategy, the vehicle with automatic transmission has better economy performance than manual transmission if the driver is not a veteran controller. So the automatic transmission has larger market shares. But the efficiency of automatic transmission is still lower than manual transmission, the researches on automatic transmission’s efficiency focusing on how to improve transmission efficiency. There are few researches on how to test and evaluate the efficiency. For this reasons, the paper will study the test and evaluation method of automatic transmission.The main researches content is as follows: make the test and evaluation method of automatic transmission efficiency; build the math and simulation models of the shifting progress of hydraulic mechanical automatic transmission; verify the evaluation index by co-simulation; verify the test and evaluation method by the automatic transmission test bench.Firstly, the paper studies the influence factors of the automatic transmission’s efficiency, then on this basis the paper makes the test and evaluation method. Secondly, the paper builds a co-simulation model to verify if the evaluation index is feasible. Finally, the paper has a test of the hydraulic mechanical automatic transmission and continuously variable transmission with test bench. The results of test verify that the test and valuation method are feasible. This paper has resolved the problem that we can not compare the transmission efficiency between different automatic transmissions.
