Culture Research Of The Cemetery And The Cemetery Landscape Design Practices

Cemetery culture is a part of human world civilization and also an inseparable part of Chinese traditional culture. Its pattern of manifestation varies because of differences in era, geographical environment, religious faith and race culture. Under the circumstance of China’s increasingly shortage of land resources and eco-environment protection to be improved, seeking the reform of funeral way has become a topic with realistic significance.In recent years, landscape design theory and style of western cemetery have accelerated its spreading in China in various forms and injected new energy to China’s cemetery landscape design. However, under the intense impact of western cemetery landscape, China’s cemetery loses its original characteristics. Through thoughts on cemetery culture and an in-depth comparative study of Chinese cemetery and western cemetery, this paper obtains western countries’advantages in cemetery landscape design and construction that Chinese cemetery should use for reference and seeks new thoughts on cemetery landscape that adapt to current social needs through combining China’s local cemetery landscape with rich cultural deposits, higher artistic level, good ecological environment and good leisure and entertainment function.This paper is composed of five chapters. The first part is the introduction. The second part lays emphasis on interpreting relevant theory basis and previous research results of cemetery. The third part makes an exploration of cemetery culture. The fourth part makes a comparative analysis of Chinese cemetery and western cemetery. The fifth part puts forward opinions and suggestions on Chinese cemetery design based on preceding context. It proposes specific ideas of cemetery landscape design from general layout, functional analysis and landscape element and puts "Ningxia Jinshan Cemetery" into practice.
