In the long-term railway network plan, heavy haul railway and high speed railway have been put forward as the main development trends of our country’s railway transportation. Heavy haul railway has more obvious advantages on transporting coal, ore and other bulk goods with the characteristics of large capacity and low cost. It is playing a more and more important role in our country’s coal logistic enterprise of coal transportation from west to east and from north to south.Generally, Coal heavy haul operates according to the scheduled train operation plan. When train operation deviates from the scheduled plan due to interferences, dispatchers tend to adjust train aimed at reducing the deviation of train operation diagram before and after adjustment. Compared with ordinary railway, the train operation of heavy haul railway has the characteristics of heavy haul railway traffic, high train tracking destiny and kinds of trains mixed running. There are many adjustment cases appearing on the heavy haul railway, such as train delay, train combination, train decomposition and so on. Therefore, it is very necessary to analyze the adjustment strategies under different situations, the process of train operation adjustment and establish targeted adjustment models with different goal in order to solve train operation adjustment problem effectively. The paper will do some researching in these areas. The main contents include the following aspects:(1) On the basis of summarizing train operation adjustment reasons and characteristics of ordinary railway, the paper analyzes the adjustment interference factors, interference mechanism and the adjustment characteristics of coal heavy haul railway combined with its transport organization characteristics.(2) Study on the train operation adjustment strategy and method of coal heavy haul railway. According to the different interference factors, the paper analyzes and discusses the adjustment scenarios of coal heavy haul railway and outlines the adjustment principles and the measures which can be taken. Depending on the type of train conflict that may occur, it explicates the process of using basic adjustment methods to ease or eliminate the conflicts. Based above contents, the paper analyzes the adjustment strategies under the conditions of train delay and train decomposition.(3) Modeling the train operation adjustment problem of coal heavy haul railway. The paper selects the adjustment scenarios of train delay, takes time sensitivity and correlation of trains into consideration, introduces interference management theory and train order entropy theory and builds a train operation adjustment model under the condition of time delay; the paper selects the adjustment scenario of train decomposition and builds a train operation adjustment model under the condition of train decomposition at the station. Then, according to the characteristics of the models, the paper designs particle swarm optimization algorithm to solve these models.(4) Taking Dazhun railway as the background, the paper designs corresponding cases to validate these models. The train operation timetables and diagrams after adjustment of these cases demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the models.
