Customized bus (CB) is a new and innovative mode of public transportation, it plans its operational activity by aggregating passengers’similar travel demand using online information platforms. Based on the analysis of domestic and international related research and the current development of CB in China, and combined with the passenger travel data, this paper studies the problems in the operating of CB, such as the vehicle number in each line, the layout of bus station and the timetable of each station.On the consideration of passengers, operators and social aspect, this paper build a model to solve the problems above. From the perspective of the passengers’, after gathering the passengers’travel demand, the model take travel time consume and travel value into consideration. As the operators, the model considers both side of operating which include incomes and costs. Apart from the above, the model build its objective function with the social benefit, for the operation of CB has reduced urban traffic congestion and alleviate greenhouse gas-emission problems.After using the basic immune genetic algorithm (IGA) into the model, this paper improved the IGA in four ways:1) the design of multiple populations; 2) the design of memory bank,3) the adaptive crossover and mutation strategy, and 4) the protective measures of gene fragment.This paper confirmed the feasibility of the model and IIGA on an computational example. Conclusions are drawn that both the model and IIGA performed well in solving result and arithmetic speed. At last, a real world example in Beijing has demonstrated the validity and rationality of the model and IIGA again.
