As citizens’ general impression on urban outlook and historical culture, urban memory carries city folks’deep affection about living environment with its formation process accompanying urban development for a long time. With accelerating process of urbanization, monotonous phenomenon can be frequently seen. Old towns with long history have been confronted with shock from modern elements. It not only leads to chaos in urban cultural consciousness, but also causes urban memory that touches people’s soul disappear. Therefore, it becomes a real problem that demands prompt solution as how to recall urban memory to some extent through restoration and transformation of specific historical blocks on the basis of meeting requirements of modern cities.Shikumen as a typical carrier for urban culture, witnesses modern civilization in Shanghai. At the same time, it cultivates life memories of old Shanghai. Thus, the paper examines blocks with typical features, including Xintiandi and Tianzifang which are of representative significance and model effect. The paper starts from urban historical blocks. Then it analyzes and lists generating elements and construction framework of landscape memory in Shikumen Block, trying to summarize ways to restore block memory. Furthermore, it provides methods and strategies with reference significance for studies on restoring urban memory.Nowadays, informationalization is developing rapidly. Under such circumstances, urban memory is not only cultural deposit and preservation, but also provides a new perspective for us to know the city in an all-round way. Eventually, it can help us to shape urban features and to construct high-quality living environment in a better way.
