The slowdown of macroeconomic in China led to a sustained decline in Chinese railway freight volume, transport capacity become surplus, railway need to open up new sources of supply. At the same time the transportation demand of the society for small goods, parcels and other cargo is growing. In 2014, China Railway Corporation restart the LCL transportation business, enter the LCL transportation market.Railway container has been very rapid development since the establishment of China railway container transport Limited Liability Company in 2003, but the sending quantity is less, it is still in the initial stage. The development of LCL transportation is to combine the common LCL and the advantages of railway container transport, transport the LCL in the form of railway container. At the same time, the application of the container can also promote the multimodal transport of LCL and the whole logistics service.This paper conducts a study focused on the feasibility, model, facilities, management network, distributed model and economy of the railway containerized transportation of LCL. The major research contents are as follows:(1) The characteristics, present situation and trend of LCL and railway container transportation have been studied. The feasibility and advantage of the railway containerized transportation of LCL are analyzed and the type of LCL for the railway containerized transportation.(2) This paper studied the container type, put forward the concept and designed principle of the new type container, designed the type and size of the new container according to the idea of box in box". This paper described the purpose, idea and principle of LCL. The new type of container is divided into different levels, determined the loading capacity and loading range of each class container.(3) The transportation of new type container needs specialized management network, The three level network structure of railway container center station, the regional distribution center and processing point is designed according to the railway container transport of the existing institutional nodes and the layout of the network operating principles, analyzed the transportation equipment, loading and unloading equipment and other equipment, studied the reform of existing railway station facilities according to the characteristics of the new type of container transportation of LCL.(4) The transportation mode of the LCL container for different mechanism nodes has been analyzed. The LCL of the new type container and loading process has a variety of ways according to the difference of workplace, LCL basis and loading basis. The paper studied the three main distribution modes and chose the best way through mathematical calculation.(5) Proposed model assumptions and variable definition, established a mathematical model which can be used to find the best LCL scheme, proved the superiority of "FCL and LCL" model and the LCL scheme through an example.(6) This paper analyzed the pricing methods, price structure and price levels of common LCL transportation, formulated the pricing principle of the railway containerized transportation of LCL, analyzed the economy of the two modes of transportation through from the angles of transportation price, transportation efficiency and transportation quality and the final conclusion is that the railway containerized transportation of LCL has better economy.
