In the process of rapid urbanization, the increasing urban impervious area caused runoff increases quickly. Therefore urban waterlogging problems frequently arise in rainy days. Storm water management has become a major problem for urban development. China has proposed the construction of sponge cities, and low-impact development is the primary means of the sponge cities construction. At present, research on low-impact development has just started. There are few successful projects that LID theory and techniques are used appropriately in the planning and design of the site. This paper summaries the framework of low-impact development system, studies how to use low-impact development concepts and technologies in the site planning and design; analysis design methods through case studies, and finally use those methods into the Tianjin area planning and design, hoping to provide a reference for the development of the theory of low-impact and "sponge city" construction.
