In China, although the civil aviation industry starts late, the development tendency is very rapid and the total air transportation is keeping growth each year. With the continuing growth of domestic transport demand, some of the key domestic hub airports have almost saturated due to the planning and development reasons, especially runway and gate position resources. On the one hand, some areas choose expansion or new airport to match the volume increased year by year; on the other hand, researchers begin paying more attention to a more scientific and reasonable pre-planning of the restrictive resources. This article is focusing on the gate position, and studying its assignment process and methods.This article has summarized the results of the researchers on gate position assignment and analyzed these thoughts and ideas. Then, based on existing experience and knowledge, this article presents selected single study goals, and makes those goals integrate to a multi-objective optimization model. Since the type of multi-objective intelligent optimization algorithm is complex, this article has selected the Tabu-Search Algorithm as the main algorithm after analyzing the most representative of those algorithms. It has achieved the desired results after put into example analysis.This article chose Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport as an example to calculate gate position assignment, then got the conclusions and recommendations. As the top ten national airport, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport has bulit the T3 Terminal and will be put into use. After the T3 Terminal completed, it will be used for the passenger service together with the older T1, T2 Terminal. The new expansion gate position resources will also be put into use. Through this particular example, this article has verified the research results and provided theoretical reference to the actual gate position assignment for Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport.
