The Research On The Application Of Space Syntax In Renewal Design Of Historical Street In Old Town

Investigation of the shape and structure of urban space has been one of the most important issues in the construction of modern cities.With the rapid development of China’s economy and the increasing levels of urbanization,urban space renewal theories study and practice becomes the focus of attention recent years.Street space is a core part of the old city space.How to complete the renovation of the street space and make it not only has the cultural characteristics,,but also to meet the requirements of people is a common challenge to government policy makers,urban planners,city dwellers and even the whole community.Research on the theory of space is a long-standing topic no matter in China or overseas.From the classical Saarinen and Place theory to Space syntax proposed by Bill Hillier,scholars have come a long history.Every theory depended on urban development and economic social backgrounds.Space syntax is a kind of rational calculation method based on topology and graph theory.It proposes urban space analysis by computer software,whose innovation lies in quantifying the expression of space inside fabric logic.Space Syntax is a computer language to describe the spatial pattern and it is the product of intelligent era.How will this theory used to update the space design of the old city streets is the subject of this paper.This paper discusses about the space syntax applied in the renewal design of the old city street space.The research is divided into two mainlines.On the theoretical research line,the author considers that the foundation of space syntax is the space system division and the relation among subspace(elements).The study is divided into three areas:(1)Syntactic transformation of c space structure.It contains convex space,space relation of topology,total depth and integration value.(2)Axial map analysis.It concludes axial map of urban space,scatter diagram and selectivity.(3)Space gridding and visual map analysis.It contains depth value and boundaries analysis.On the practice line,the paper divided the application method into two parts.First part is in macroscopic scale.Axial map analysis contains the calculation result of connection value,integration value and so on.The results show the space characters to designers to adjust proposal.Second part is in the microcosmic angle.Human activities mainly guide by visual senses.Space syntax of the visual range of each other depending on the degree of local space and were estimated to complete therenewal microscopic spatial structure.At the end,the article summarizes the old streets in different spatial scales renewal design strategy and puts up important information and references for urban spatial structure optimization.
