The recycling of automobile wasted heat plays an important role in the energy saving of cars. This paper designed and developed a new type of car air-conditioning apparatus for cooling by using recycled automobile exhaust waste heat which reduced the emission of vehicle exhaust waste heat to the atmosphere.Firstly, the compressor control model was established with the hybrid modeling method by combining theory and experience modeling approaches. The continuous motion of the piston compressor unit was divided into numerous single-cycle reciprocating motion. The work-fluid obtained kinetic energy and thermal energy after flowing through the compressor. The theorem of kinetic energy and enthalpy increment were used to calculate the work-fluid’s energy to obtain the control model of the compressor.Secondly, a triple-mode operation refrigeration unit which included a compressor cycle and an ejector cycle was designed according to the differences in operating conditions which resulted in different emission of automobile exhaust waste heat:compressor mode, compressor-ejector mixing mode and ejector mode. According to calculations of exhaust waste power and heat load, a generator, an evaporator and a condenser were designed to simulate automobile waste heat, the cooling load and the radiator, respectively. Different operation modes was switched with different combinations of the solenoid valve’s opening and closing in order to use the minimum energy consumption under different operating conditions to meet cooling demand.Thirdly, LabVIEW was chosen to develop the PC software to capture the parameters and control the system. The parameters of temperature, pressure and flowrate were collected, displayed and saved automatically. The solenoid valve’s opening and closing, the speed of the compressor and electronic expansion valve opening degree were controlled through the PC software.Finally, the automobile exhaust waste heat recycling apparatus was set up and studied systematically. The sensors calibration were done one by one. The devices were tested carefully and operational fault was removed.Experiment results showed that the compressor mode, compressor-ejector mode and ejector mode state can utilize the waste heat to meet the cooling requirements successfully.
