As the significant energy carrier directly facing the society and customers, power distribution network is the significant constituent part of the strong smart grid. While power distribution automation is the important mean for implementing the intelligent power distribution network, necessary to improving the reliability of city network power supply, and also the inexorable trend for modern development of the electric system.The construction of the power distribution automation system is the comprehensive engineering which shall be implemented by combining with the local actual situations in the regional, phased and planned mode step by step. The pilot project of the power distribution automation implemented in the main urban area in Hangzhou is analyzed and researched by combining with the current situation of the power distribution network in Hangzhou in the article.The concept, functions and structure of the power distribution automation system are firstly stated in the article. According to the current situation and the existing problems of the power distribution network in the experimental area in the main urban area in Hangzhou, the demand analysis of once net rack, equipment transformation, master station construction, substation/terminal transformation, and construction of power distribution data communication network is proposed pointedly, through comparison and selection of power distribution automatic mode and the reconstruction method, then the technical transformation plan is confirmed, the achievement acquired in the power distribution automatic reform is listed, and the economic benefic, management benefit and social benefit after the project is implemented are analyzed. Finally, the problems solved in the process of power distribution automatic reform and the acquired breakthroughs on this basis are analyzed, the experience obtained through the power distribution automatic reform is summarized to propose three suggestions so as to provide the corresponding reference for the power distribution automatic reform in other area.
