This paper firstly analysis climate and building profiles of the hulunbuir cold region, including the geographical distribution, climate characteristics such as the temperature, humidity and solar radiation, make an investigation of building energy consumption and energy utilization of the hulunbuir region. Take a conclusion of building design principle, specification and difficulty in cold region. Take the research off the living status in hulunbuir, including the form and layout of residential communities, architectural space, material and structure characteristic, as well as residential construction and construction. To investigate the heating means, including regional special structures such as fire wall, fire resistance and home heating. A preliminary analysis was took about the rural house in construction, thermal problems.Secondly, analysis of the measured on rural house indoor thermal environment conditions was carried on. Design test plan, including test objects, time, location, method, process, etc. It is concluded that the winter indoor temperature is low and the phenomenon of uneven temperature distribution. Analyze the thermal comfort of rural residential building, including the influence factors such as temperature and humidity, the average radiation temperature and wind speed. Through the questionnaire survey of rural residents, analysis of the true feelings in terms of comfort, and take thermal neutral temperature as indicators, using the thermal sensation vote and the linear fitting method to establish model, to evaluate objectively the indoor thermal comfort. In addition, the corresponding test has been carried on the local traditional double containment structure such as doors and windows and the roof, and the traditional typical heating structure fire wall, analyzed their respective strengths and weaknesses. Analyses a series of tests and survey assessment results, found the problems existed in the rural house, including groups scattered layout, architecture body defect, heating way backward, energy efficiency is low, lack of energy saving management and so on.On the basis of full study the theory of appropriate technology for regional, summary of cold region rural residential energy-saving design strategy. In space planning and layout aspect such as the sunshine spacing, the influence of the wind, the single building level such as interior space, shape coefficient and window wall area ratio, etc. Analysis the energy saving construction of the enclosure structure, including the walls, doors and windows, roof, floor, etc. Combining with the above investigation and test results, summarize the experiences of traditional residence design, including some regional heating, heat preservation and energy saving construction, etc. analysis of its rationality and possibility to continue to use or change of design in the future. In addition, make full use of renewable energy sources such as biomass, solar and wind power, etc., and put forward the using techniques which are suitable for the local economy and the climate background such as gas pool heating, straw gasification, etc.Finally, aiming at the existing problem and defects of hulun buir rural house, energy conservation improvement measures which are suitability and accord with of the rural economic conditions were put forward in the palisade structure, heating means, renewable energy and other aspects. And further evaluation of economic and ecological benefits were took on the various technical measures. The result shows that the proposed design transformation strategy is energy saving, suitable and effective.
