Research On Protection Planning & Strategy For Traditional Rural Settlements In Dali Urban-rural Integration Development Area

By virtue of scientific site selection, complete street layout, and prominent building style, traditional rural settlements not only embody and continue the millennial life wisdom of Chinese people but also reflect the features and style of history and culture in various regions. Therefore, traditional rural settlements, precious and indispensable, are the historical context of life development of people in China. Owing to the rapid growth in people’s living standard, gradual prominence of “problems concerning agriculture,rural development and farmers”, as well as advancement of urban-rural integration polices, traditional rural settlements are facing huge challenges. Under this background,how can traditional settlements be preserved and how can traditional settlements burst out great vitality under the new situation? In the time when the rural way of living and economic structure change quickly and when the national focus is shifted, opportunities and challenges the preservation of traditional rural settlements facing exist side by side.Preserving traditional settlements, on the one hand, is the protection and development of regional culture, rural culture and family culture; on the other, it distills the features and construction mode of traditional buildings in traditional settlements, provides certain technical support and design inspiration to the construction of contemporary buildings,and is also an effective means of making settlements and regional buildings continue.Also, in the meantime, it lays the good foundation for the preservation of vernacular environment and natural conditions.With the realistic conditions, features and problems of traditional settlements in Dali urban-rural integration development area being closely followed in this paper, the evaluation system is defined via scientific analysis and the traditional settlements in urban-rural integration areas are evaluated and classified. As to the traditional rural settlements with preservation value, following the basic features of modernization and urbanization of traditional rural settlements in urban-rural integration, and sticking closely to the venation of local economic development transformation are necessary. All aspects of traditional settlements shall be analyzed and studied mainly based on “preservation first, development second” from the angle of sustainable development and long-term interests; also, the comprehensive response shall start with the locality from the government, farmers, society, individuals, etc., to live up to the expected preservation effect. Besides, during the preservation, a virtuous circle of“tourism development by the government- agriculture development by farmers-preservation of traditional settlements- attracting more tourists- bringing interests to both the government and villagers” shall be realized. However, as to settlements with the low preservation value, strategies for effective handling shall be put forward, to solve the waste of land in disused rural houses. Properly handling the preservation of traditional settlements can push the urban-rural integration ahead more mildly and make people complete urbanization during the process of industrial upgrading, thus benefiting the masses more.
