Differences of economy, technology, geography, environmental conditions make the asphalt pavement design specifications distinctive in each country all over the world. In these specifications, pavement structure design parameters are also quite different. Considering the importance of parameters throughout the design process, as well as the increase of foreign aid in roads, it’s necessary to compare and analyze design parameters in asphalt pavement specifications of China and foreign countries. Asphalt pavement design parameters are divided into four categories:transportation, material, soil base and environmental parameters, each of which parameters can be subdivided. Select China, France, and the United States as internal and external representative to analyze.Importance analysis of design parameters in three countries should be conducted due to the large quantities of parameters. It can be found that the thickness of base, the modulus of base and surface are of great importance.Acquisition of asphalt pavement design parameters is compared and additional attention is paid to those more important parameters. In China and France, axle load conversion is used to calculate the traffic volume, the result of China is 1.2 times of France’s. The U.S will generate a target year apporoximate axle load spectrum, making the prediction more accurate and increasing the amount of calculation. Analyze the internal and external factors that affect the asphalt mixture modulus and it can be found that when the tempurture is low, the modulus is less influenced by dynamic and stadic modulus test method and design method, the difference is less than 30%; as the tempurture goes up, both of them will lead the modulus to increase significantly.China and France use bearing plate method to determine the static modulus of subgrade, while the U.S uses the repeated loading of three axles test to obtain. Dynamic moludus is about 2-2.5 times of static modulus and it’s more reasonzble. Based on the climate data, China and France set partitions in the whole country; the U.S monitors the climate factors by establishing meteorological stations. Environmental parameters will have a great effect on the modulus of material and aubgrade, so its accuracy should be ensured.Take Maputo beltway V line in Mozambique as an example, using design parameters in three countries to design, optimize and then evaluate the pavement structures. With the increase of material modulus, pavement thickness can be significantly reduced and applicability will be improved. When designing asphalt pavement, parameters should be adjusted reasonably according to geography, resources, economyand other factors.The research results of this paper obtains the more important design parameters and their acquisition in asphalt pavement specifications of China and foreign countries, trying to provide some useful reference to the improvement of asphalt pavement design.
