The Urban Design Guidelines Compiling Research

Urban design guideline is an expression of elements in city area or in the whole city. It’s the most basic and distinctive form of urban design, also one of the most effective tools for the planning intention to imply. In the preservation and development of Historic towns, they mostly rely on the national and provincial relevant laws and regulations—pay attention to the preservation but neglect the development. Missing regulatory plan and city design, the regulations are not enough to meet the developing needs of historic town especially the peripheral zone coordination region outside the core preservation area. Urban design guidelines can satisfy the double requirements for protection and development of historic town, which can preserve historical and cultural relics scientifically, and also attain sustainable development of historic town through format function and spatial characteristics of the innovation. In this thesis, we start from the strategy of compiling the urban design guideline, then research on the urban design guideline, taking historic district surrounding area urban design as an example. We first describe and summarize the functional characteristics of the historic town, study the needs and requests for historical town preservation and development, analyze the basis of the current planning and management, and put forward the problems and shortcomings. Then, we made an in-depth study on the history Township tourism service area urban design guidelines for the preparation of the framework and control elements. After that, we construct elements of historic town tourism service area of city design guidelines for control system in ten aspects—globe preservation, land use, spatial pattern, architectural, landscape, traffic, features of the environment, ecological protection, infrastructure, and travel service. Finally, we study Qintong historic town as an example, practice research on the urban design guideline index system of the ancient town tourist area.
