A Study On Dongshi Historic Town Of Zhijiang City In Hubei

Dongshi Town lies at the throat of the Three Gorges, near Pianghan Plain to the east side, link Dongting Lake in the south side , meeting Chongqing in the west and connecting Shanxi to the north side. There are great advantage of the locatin and the convenient in conveyance. As one of four historic towns in Zhijiang , it had been the important bussiness towns between Chongqing and Hubei . Dongshi has a glorious history with rich regional culture, and distinct feature of space shape and the traditional building, historifying the development of local history, the economy and the cultural.By grasping the evolution of Dongshi, this paper analyzed that the initiation and development of this town which's influenced by the factors of nature, economy, traffic and culture, and then divided the development period of the historic town into several steps by researching these factors and summarized its characteristic in each steps.After that, it discussed the location, space sharp and characteristic of regional culture of this historic town at the standpoint of its space situation as to reflect the cultural background to the whole environment of the town.The streets like the bone of the town, and the character of sharp, the structure of the streets space, the function of streets, the interfaces, the elements of the sight should be the reflection of the character of this historic town. The layout of the town, which appears as " river→bank→building→street" , the unique street space alignments and the nodes of the space were correlative with the development of Dongshi.The traditional building is one of the elements used to study historic towns. The paper analyzed the types of local specification building , the characteristics of the space and the reason of the "tianjing", "tiandou" building , summarized the regional method of the constructs and technical form.At last, combining with the actuality research of Dongshi Town and construct department's evaluating system , this paper summarized the value of history, science and art value of this historic town , evaluated this town, and then brought forward the conception for the digging and laying out the value of Dongshi town.In a word, the paper analyzed the initiation and the development, streets space and the traditional features of architecture of this historic town at the standpoint of geography, history, urban planning, architecture and cultural heritage protection, which in order to find the value of the town and put forward reasonable suggestions about the protecting and develeping of Dongshi.
