In the background of the fast urbanization development, the historic districts stay in the embarrassing position. Because massive construction projects require strict and orderly unitary plans, it also needs unitary disassembly, unitary renovation and unitary rebuilding in the process of historic districts renovation. The top to bottom pattern increases efficiency and controls uncertain factors, however it also constrains personalties of residents. As a result, it leads to the single form, similar function, and culture rupture. Regarding experience of spontaneous space as cutting point, the thesis analyzes how the spontaneous space practice has an effect on space creation and cultural continuation of historic districts. At last, it tries to discuss a new renovation strategy leaded by residents. The thesis including five chapters:the first chapter introduces the problems in the process of historic districts renovation in the background of the fast urbanization development, thus it confirms the background of the research. The second chapter describes a series of concepts about spontaneous space practice and confirms the entry point. The third chapter analyzes effection and meaning that the spontaneous space practice impacts on historic districts. The forth chapter discusses the realization approaches of spontaneous space practice in the process of design and building based on public participation and individual construction. The last chapter discusses the possibility and strategy on motivating spontaneous space practice in the process of using and adjustment.
