With road congestion intensifies, more and more countries and regions realize importance of developing urban rail transit systems with large and medium traffic volume.Rail transit systems has been developing rapidly. The excellent efficiency of rail and bus convergence can improve public transport service level, increase the attractiveness of public transport for urban residents, optimize the structure of resident travel and it has priority strategic significance on the promotion of public transportation.On the basis of Guangzhou public transit improvements, the Guangzhou urban rail transit and bus were studied. A convergence mode optimization method was proposed to determine the public transport convergence in different situations based on the level of rail network service. A convergence comprehensive evaluation method was proposed based on improved matter-element extension model with variable weight. Finally, Guangzhou metro line 3 and bus lines were optimized based on the metro line passenger data, the optimization result was comprehensively evaluated. The main contents of the research are as follows:1. Domestic and foreign research methods on rail transit and bus were analysed. An idea was proposed on the rail transit and bus from the point of view regarding convergence mode adjustment.2. Variety of typical rail transit and bus convergence models were studied. The convergence modes for metro network area, metro backbone area, metro independent area were analysed respectively.3. The overall development status of the Guangzhou metro was introduced. According to Guangzhou metro present situation of station convergence, line convergence and transfer traffic. With the passenger data of metro line 1, the existing problems were arranged from the present convergence situation.4. A convergence mode optimization method was proposed to determine the public transport convergence in different situations based on the level of rail network service. A convergence comprehensive evaluation method was proposed based on improved matter-element extension model with variable weight.5. Combined with relevant specific cases, the convergence mode optimization method and comprehensive evaluation method have been tested. Combined with passenger data of Guangzhou Metro Line 1, the rail transit and bus convergence was optimized. The convergence mode optimization method was used to determine the bus optimization proposal,and optimization proposal were evaluated.The evaluation result shows that the proposed convergence mode optimization method has an effective and significant effect on the rail transit and bus convergence. This study has a certain value on the rail transit and bus convergence and mutual development and it provides the theoretical basis for the public transport priorty development strategy.
