Tire rolling resistance is an important factor contributing to the vehicle fuel economy. For passenger vehicles, 3.4% to 6.6% of fuel consumption is used to overcome the rolling resistance. Both the tire labeling regulation of EU and the 13 th five-year plan of China have stipulated clear requirements to develop the low rolling resistance tire. Therefore, it is of both theoretical and practical significance to put forward a more comprehensive method of calculating and optimizing the tire’s rolling resistance performance. In this research, the PCR tire 205/55R16 is chosen as the research subject, the tire rolling resistance testing bench is used to measure the temperature field distribution and the rolling resistance of the tire.In order to obtain the material simulation parameters, the relationship between thermo-physical parameters and temperature of rubber is tested by the thermo-physical parameters test. The loss factor test is carried out to measure the relationship between loss factor, temperature and strain of rubber using the loss factor bench. The test bench of thermal contact resistance is designed to calculate the thermal contact resistance between tire and pavement. And the mechanical properties of tire materials are tested by the tensile test bench. The simulation model of the tire rolling resistance test bench is established by FEA method, the mechanical properties and the temperature field distribution of the model are analyzed by ABAQUS and ANSYS software. Based on this model, the rolling resistance of radial tire in the conditions of temperature coupling is calculated and the reliability of the model is validated. As a result, the simulation method presented in this paper can improve the accuracy of the temperature field and rolling resistance.Based on the full stress design method, an outer contour design method of the 205/55R16 radial tire is proposed to optimize the performance of rolling resistance, temperature field, and endurance using the evolutionary structural optimization. The results show that compared with the existing contour, the modified one can be applied to reduce tire’s weight, temperature and rolling resistance while the service life improved. In addition, the balancing of the stress distribution of rubber parts can improve the performance of PCR tire. This paper studied the simulation method of tire temperature field with the influence of surrounding conditions, which can improves the calculation precision of the rolling resistance. Meanwhile, based on the full stress design theory, a structure design method of low rolling resistance tires is proposed to reduce the rolling resistance of radial tire, which can play a guiding role in the design of low rolling resistance tires.
