Study On Morphology Characteristics Of Wenquan Town In Guangzhou

Wenquan town located in the northeast of Guangzhou Conghua district, rich in history,natural resources and transportation, in famous of "The First Spring in Lingnan " "The spa town in the world". Wenquan town has various typical cultural features with more than two thousand years of history. So it has important significance as a sample in the micro level study of Urban Morphology.Drawing on the Conzeniens’ analytical methods, this paper research the urban form of Wenquan town, based on the method of large scale topographic map analysis and combined with historical data and field research. This paper will divide "form regions" and summary morphological characteristics on the basis of current perspective and whole urban morphology factors classification analysis. After the description of every form region when formed, this paper will divide "sub-morphological regions", and summarize the system characteristics of various periods. The general characteristics of urban morphology will be revealed finally.Chapter 1 is introduction.first it will introduce the background of this research, review the situation of the research of urban form at home and abroad, then determine the research framework, finally elaborate the purpose of my research. Chapter 2 is a brief overview of geographical location, natural conditions, historical development and land ownership in Wenquan town. Chapter 3 will analyze the various forms of the elements of the region-street system, blocks, plots, building types and land use as a whole, then divide "form regions" of Wenquan town. According to the formation of different ages and different main building, the present area is divided into four "form regions" : built by local villagers and bureaucracy before the 1949, developed by party and government organs early years after the liberation,reformed by state-owned enterprises and institutions after the reform and open policy and stationed in the development of private enterprises after 20 century. In the next four chapters,each region will be studied in details. According to the analysis of the region-street system,blocks, plots, building types and land use, the "sub-morphological regions" will be divided with the summary of system characteristics of each period. This section not only includes the divide of form regions in spatial order, but also contains the analysis of evolution process in chronological terms. The last part will reveal the general characteristics and their causes of urban morphology.
