The research of modern architectural heritage is a new and frontier subject in the world. The importance of protecting the modern architecture is the same as the protection of the ancient heritage. This is also the latest areas of world’s cultural heritage protection.The particularity of the Chinese modern history process, determines the existence of Chinese modern architectural heritage, it is pluralistic culture under the influence of historical witness, it is also the important element of China’s urban development. And it is a part of Chinese history, as same as the Chinese brilliant ancient architectural culture. It Cannot be separated. Nowadays, more and more people realize the important value of Chinese modern and contemporary history, and begin to study in depth and breadth field. At present, the research has been penetrated into the inland provinces, which is some kind of relatively weak. More and more cities began to research and protect the modern architecture.Xiang yang is the inland city which has long history and rich culture, it’s modern architecture has the generality of China’s inland cities, Xiang yang is the state-level historical and cultural city, so that the modern architecture protection and continuity in urban development layer mask has certain value and significance. As a part of the long history of Xiang yang, the information contained in the building is the same as the ancient cultural heritage. At the same time, the research of this paper has a leading role in coordinating the relationship between architectural heritage and historical and cultural city protection strategy, architectural heritage and the future development of the city.On the basis of literature research and field survey research of Xiang yang’s modern architecture, the development process of modern architecture in Xiang yang, building types and instances, architectural features and value assessment were studied.First, with the change and development of Xiang yang in modern social politics, economy and history as the background, development process of the modern Xiang yang City were studied since the modern time segments as the main line, analyzes the various stages of development and the characteristics which Xiang yang’s buildings showed, then analyses Xiang yang modern architecture since the modern times, under the influence of the western culture, to building inherited the traditional building and modern building the initial stage to the stage of rapid development.Secondly, classified Xiang yang’s modern architecture. studied the examples of various types of buildings which are now existing, and to analyzed the preservation conditions and characteristics in detail.Third, to research and analysis the historical value, artistic value and technical value and additional value of Xiang yang modern architecture, so as to clearly see the characteristics and regional characteristics of Xiang yang modern architecture in different time. It is concluded that the Xiang yang modern architectural heritage has a certain representation and protection value. The Xiang yang modern architectural heritage, which has the protection value, has been recognized, and the evaluation table of the Xiang yang modern architectural heritage survey has been drawn.Fourth, to sort out the problems which are existing in Xiang yang modern architectural heritage of its living condition are being studied, and the protection combined with the development status of Xiang yang City and "Xiang yang historical City Conservation Planning", put forward to the modern architectural heritage protection and renewal of the strategies and suggestions.
