A Study On The Innovations Of China Taiwan's Modern Architecture Design

On August 15,1945,Taiwan region was recovered after the surrender of Japan and returned to its motherland.In 1949,a group of architectural professionals moved with the KMT regime to Taiwan when the mainland and Taiwan were separately governed.They inherited the context of modern China architecture since the Republic of China era and developed it to stride on the right track of modern architecture.In the era ofthe cold war between East and West and of the confrontation between the two sides of the Straits,and by the situation where the regime of Taiwan region belonged to the West camp,the regional architecture was directly interconnected with the post-war modern architecture movement in the West and was objectively made animportant Sinicization practice base of the vigorous movement.During the period from 1950 s to 1980 s,the architecturalindustryin Taiwan region undertook the essential task of sinicizing western modern architectureand gainedsignificant breakthroughs in both theory and practice.Since 1990 s,with the rise of social pluralism and the gradual localization of the region,the architecture in Taiwan,innovatively characterized by modernization and regionalization,has become one of the current samples in developing the contemporary China regional architecture.Taiwan is an inseparable part of China.Its development and innovation process of post-war modern architecture,as an essential part both in the exploration and development process of post-war modern architecture of China and in the sinicization of modern architectural design and theory,is attached considerable research value.As Manfredo Tafuri once described “architecture as the ideology of the plan”,only when placed in the complex historical background of the two sides of the Straitsand of the international situations,can the intricate and innovative narrative and connotationsimplied in Taiwan regional modern architecture show its substance.This research,taking architectural innovation as a tool and based on quantities of literature research and field investigations,views from the three dimensions of the development of world modern architectural movement,of modern China architecture since the Republic of China era,and of the local architecture in Fujian-Taiwan cultural circle,divides the post-war modern architectural development of Taiwan into three stages of Early,Middle and Late,and follows the four threads of modernity,classicality,humanity and vernacular,so as to fuse them into nine sections of architectural innovation for detailed elaboration.This research draws a depiction of the modern architectural innovation in Taiwan,sums up five motivationsof its development and analyzes its positive and negative trends,in order to eventuallysketch outthe tracks,threads,significance and a grand spectacleof it since 1950 s.
