Comparison And Research Of University Landscape In Xi’an And Taichung Region

Campus is the space carrier of university education. The Confucius once said that "I always wander in the forest of Zi Wei and teach in Xing Tan". We can infer from him that the campus environment and the education are very closely connected from the ancient time. But now, along with the development of the society, university campus has become an important part of urban landscape. Moreover, the university landscape environment directly influence on students to improve physical and mental health.This paper starts from recognizing the significance of the campus landscape and expounds on the relationship between the university campus landscape and the students’ psychological and behavioral characteristics. On the basis of the above, this paper reviewed the domestic and overseas university campus landscape of the recent years, which can make the paper combine today’s university education with college students’ actual situation in China for better analysis, and suggest solutions.This paper investigated and analyzed the following aspects of universities in Taichung and Xi’an area: Overall layout, road system, functional analysis, landmarks, and important landscape nodes, etc. Also, design methods of the various universities landscape were summarized with examples. The existing problems of university landscape in Xi’an area were described.Based upon the landscape design science, environmental psychology, behavioral science, the overall university landscape elements were considered. The university campus landscape, students experience and the students’ needs, these three aspects were separately analyzed and studied.Based on the existing problems of the university campus landscape at Xi’an area, this paper combined the research which is related to the geographical climate, base background factors, education concept, planning concept and etc. And also related to campus building, road, square, plants, grass, water, landscape elements doors, sculpture and etc. This paper compared similarities and differences of campus landscape of Xi’an and Taichung area with the macroscopic analysis. This paper choose two Universities which have the most traditional Chinese landscape style: Tunghai university and Caotang campus of Xi’an university of architecture and technology, and analyzed the similarities and differences of the both University such as basic situation, characteristics of campus planning, campus building, entrances, animal, plant, water, roads, campus, sculpture, landscape details and campus facilities.Finally, with the results of the contrastive study, suggest solutions to the problems for the Xi’an area landscape of the campus from three aspects: Campus planning, landscape, and landscape elements. Put forward the people-oriented, create student spirit home of campus landscape design goal, and hope for the future campus landscape design in Xi’an region play a positive role.
