For the automobile industry which is facing the increasing pressure of the energy shortage and environment pollution problems, the importance of electric vehicle technology is blindingly obvious. As an important technological route of electric vehicle development, the hub motor drive system is more flexible on the vehicle layout design than the traditional vehicle. It also can improve the transmission efficiency by using electrical energy transfer instead of mechanical transmission device. With the four-wheel drive form, the characteristics that the rotation torque and rotational speed of each drive wheel can be easily measured and controlled provide faster and more accurate output response, so it is convenient to apply the active safety technology, such as the traction control、anti-lock braking system and direct yaw moment control. So it is important to establish a hub motor four-wheel drive electric vehicle experimental platform that can be used to research all kinds of drive control technology.This paper introduced the significance of electric vehicle based on hub motor drive and the research status of hub motor drive technology applied on electric vehicle, analyzed the key technologies need to be solved. Then analyzed the structure characteristics of hub motor drive electric vehicle. Based on that, studied the functional and power performance requirements of the electric experimental vehicle this paper designed. Proposed the power performance design goals of the electric experimental vehicle, finished the dynamic system matching design, calculated the parameters of the key parts in the drive system, such as drive motor and power battery. Determined the basic structure parameters of electric experimental vehicle, then finished installed design of hub motor, the layout design of sensor and controller, designed the vehicle chassis.At last, built the four wheel drive modules and related component models by Advisor2002 software based on the parameters were designed, then did the corresponding simulation calculation.The results show that the dynamic performance goals were achieved, it indicated that the design of the four wheel drive electric experimental vehicle based on hub motor drive meet the design requirements and can be used as the experimental platform of the coming drive control research.
