With the rapid development of the automotive industry, the problems of energy crisis and environmental pollution have become increasingly serious. So it’s imperative to save energy and reduce emission. Reducing engine displacement is an effective energy conservation measures, but the engine power will be inadequate in the same time. The turbocharger technology can not only reduce engine displacement and keep the engine power performance, but also can improve engine economy performance and emissions performance. It will be the trend of the future to use the small displacement turbocharged technology as the main technology of energy saving and emission reduction in the automotive market. Based on this background, the paper implements the matching research on small displacement gasoline engine and turbocharger.Compared with diesel engine, the gasoline engine has a high load,wide speed range changes, and it is easy to knock. The matching research between gasoline engine and diesel engine is different. According to the gasoline engine working characteristics, it can find out that a matching method on gasoline engines and complete the work on the basis of this method. The work of following aspects has been done in this paper:(1)According to the working characteristics of gasoline engine and the design theory of turbo boost, the matching method of gasoline engine and turbocharger is determined. According to this method, the relevant parameters are calculated according to the target parameter and then ensure turbocharger type.(2)According to refrigerant cylinder gasoline engine combustion theory, we choose the appropriate combustion heat model and heat transfer model to build the natural suction engine model, and add the turbocharger, intercooler and other components on the basis of the model, turbocharged gasoline engine model is established.(3)To build the test bench, experimental data has achieved to verify the simulation model in the AVL-BOOST. Compared with the value of the simulation data, the error is less than 5%, to prove the models are correct.(4)Based on the experimental data and the simulation data, this paper analyses the results of the study, mainly analyzes the power performance of the turbocharged engine and the results of turbocharger and engine matching. The results show that the turbocharger can effectively improve the dynamic performance of engine in most working conditions, the turbocharged engine power performance meets the requirements of the target, and the matching results is good. The results prove that the matching method can meet the need of small-displacement gasoline engine.
