With the rapid development of economy, China’s urbanization and motorization has quickened these years, the mismatch between supply and demand of urban road is becoming even more serious and the traffic congestion problem is also getting worse. In order to reduce urban traffic congestion effectively and improve the land use efficiency, the theory of the bus priority has been recognized by our society. Bus signal priority control strategies make public transport vehicles benefit a lot by reasonable distribution of signal priority. This article presented a bus priority signal control strategy for single intersections and provided a method of bus priority signal coordination control for urban arterials. The VISSIM software is used to simulate and analysis. Specific work summarized as follows:1、First of all, This paper expounded the basic concept of public transport priority, and then the optimization method of bus priority space allocation was introduced. The priority signal control method have been described in three major areas: the control objectives, the control methods, and the traffic facilities, and then explains How to arrange the layout of traffic detector in urban road.2、Taking the urban single intersection for research, determines the level of service based on the saturation degree, based on the theory of single intersection signal control, the green time range of transit phase could be determined according to the green time calculated on the basis of the minimum signal cycle time and the practical signal cycle time. This article presented the strategy of green extension, the strategy of green-early start and the combined strategy to solve such problem which the social traffic could meet the minimum transit time.3、Taking multiple intersections for research, based on the theory of coordinated signal control, considered the intersection service level based on queue length, this paper provided a method of bus signal priority coordination control in order to protect the width of green wave for social traffic.4、Select instances to verify the strategy. The VAP language is used to program phase transition and the VISSIM software is applied to simulate the control scheme of bus priority signal. Through the simulation experiments, the control effectiveness of the proposed schemes could be analyzed and evaluated.
