China’s growing energy is short, environmental requirements will be more stringent, The effectively operation, high efficiency and high quality, saving energy and reducing the cost are essential to the steel and calcium carbide industry. Once the electric arc furnace smelting products want to be competitive in the world market, it must do the maximum possible to improve product quality and reduce energy consumption. Nowadays, the process control technology of electric arc furnace develops from the conventional basic automation and general monitoring function to the artificial intelligence, expert system and management optimization direction. There is a wide gap compared China ’s electric arc furnace control technology with the international advanced technology, it is difficult to achieve relying solely on conventional control strategy, it must use the advanced control technology. The automatic control system, that influences the quality and output of the products directly, is an important part of an EAF process.Therefore, calcium carbide smelting furnace process optimization and energy saving has become an inevitable trend.Owing to that the EAF electrod regulator system has nonlinear,delay,random characters,the design philosophy of high-order sliding mode control was combined with dynamical sliding mode control. A dynamic sliding mode controller(DSMC) was designed and applied to electrode regulator system,i e to compose a new switching function by differential switching function,thus,the discontinuous terms are transferred to the first order derivative of the control input, then gained the dynamic sliding mode control law which is continuous in itself.This paper presents the simulations of system step response and tracking characteristics.Simulation results show that the dynamic sliding mode control can not only make the system has better dynamic performance and excellent tracking characteristics.but also effectively solve the system chattering problem.This design is based on the production process control requirements, from the perspective of electrode regulator of automation; design the electric arc furnace intelligent control system. EAF control system is designed by means of the advanced control techniques. The application of advanced control techniques to EAF smelting process improves the whole process automatic control level, restrains the fluctuation of product quality effectively. It has many advantages such as reducing electric power consumption, increasing production efficiency and reducing the smelting cost of EAF. Moreover, the system enhances the function of information management, reduces the labor intension of workers, and achieves distinct economic benefit and social benefit.
